Our directory lists 12 Spanish restaurants in Switzerland. Zurich has the biggest cluster, but some of the more interesting listings are in smaller towns.
Everything below comes from each restaurant's own listing with us. Opening hours change, so check the venue's site before you go.
Zurich: old town wine bar to Langstrasse tapas
Five of the 12 are in Zurich, and they cover quite different kinds of evening.
- Bodega Espanola, Münstergasse 15 in the old town. Traditional Spanish dishes, tapas, sherries and port wines. Its listing notes that the city tourist board describes it as the oldest Spanish wine store in Zurich with its own restaurant.
- Mesa Madrid, Weinbergstrasse 75. It says it was set up to promote authentic Spanish gastronomy in Switzerland, with traditional dishes adapted to newer techniques and a wide range of Spanish wines.
- Casa Aurelio, Langstrasse 209. A broad Spanish menu with regional dishes, where seafood and meat play a big role.
- Toro Bar, Schöneggstrasse 25 in the Langstrasse area. A long-standing tapas bar serving Spanish small plates and drinks, which turns into a Latin music and karaoke spot at night, with live football, DJs and events.
- Iberia Tapas Restaurant, Albisriederstrasse 16. More than 25 tapas on offer, according to its listing.
A rough way to choose: Bodega Espanola for sherry in the old town, Iberia Tapas for a long tapas list, and Toro Bar if you want tapas that roll into a night out.
Geneva: a family house from 1980 and an evening tapas room
We list two Spanish restaurants in Geneva.
- El Faro, Rue de Fribourg 5. Founded in 1980 by the Moro family, and described in its listing as a fixture of Iberian food in Calvin's city.
- Hanae Tapas Restaurant, Rue des Pierre-du-Niton 5. Its listing describes an exclusively Spanish menu built on first-class products. Listed hours are evenings only, so it is a dinner stop.
Lucerne, Bern and the Alps
- Bolero at the Cascada Boutique Hotel, Bundesplatz 18, Lucerne. "Tapas, Paellas y Vinos" is the core of the menu, with varied tapas and a selection of paellas. It also offers catering.
- Gasthof Bären Toffen, Bernstrasse 8 in Toffen, south of Bern. A Gasthof (inn) whose listing describes Mediterranean cooking with Spanish specialities.
- Vino y Mas, Goldgasse 11, Chur. Spanish food and wine "in the center of the Alps", with listed opening from late afternoon.
Glarus and Schaffhausen: a deli and a family tribute
- Essensaciones Gastro Boutique, Bahnhofstrasse 14 in the Markthalle Glarus (Alte Post). A gourmet shop with an on-site tasting area: Spanish wines, Iberian DOP hams and cold cuts, dry-aged meats and tapas, plus take-away, private dinners, pairings and catering. Its listed hours are short and daytime only, on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, so plan around them.
- Al Andalus / Casa Rosado, Unterstadt 21, Schaffhausen. Opened in 2017 as a tribute to the owner's family roots. "Casa Rosado" is an homage to the owner's father, and the cooking is general Spanish with tapas and typical dishes.
How to use this guide
If you are in Zurich for one night, the old town and the Langstrasse area give you two very different Spanish evenings. In Geneva, El Faro has the earliest stated founding year of our Swiss listings, 1980. Check hours before travelling: Essensaciones in Glarus lists daytime opening on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday only, Hanae lists evenings only, and Vino y Mas opens from late afternoon.
