“Ibérico – Hoi An Tonight's dinner choice belonged to Emily, and for once nobody argued. Tucked along the riverfront in Hoi An, Ibérico serves Spanish tapas, sangria and the dangerous illusion that ordering lots of small plates somehow means you're eating less. We all know how that story ends. There were six of us, so naturally we ordered enough food for a minor village. Croquetas, garlic prawns, tapas plates, seafood dishes and a magnificent paella landed on the table in waves. The seafood paella was the star of the night – rich, deeply flavoured and cooked properly, with every grain of rice packed with flavour. No yellow tourist rice pretending to be paella here. The sangria arrived by the jug and disappeared at roughly the same speed. Fresh, fruity and far too easy to drink. It's the sort of drink that has you saying, "Just one more jug," while completely forgetting how many you've already had. The beauty of tapas is that everyone gets to try a bit of everything. The downside is that when something particularly good arrives, grown adults suddenly develop the survival instincts of seagulls fighting over chips. The location is lovely, right on the riverfront, with lanterns glowing outside and plenty of people-watching opportunities. Service was friendly and relaxed, letting us settle in for a long, leisurely dinner rather than trying to turn the table over every five minutes. I've eaten some very clever food on this trip, but sometimes what you really want is a table full of friends, plates scattered everywhere, a jug of sangria within reach and absolutely no intention of counting calories. A cracking night out. “Beautiful Spanish restaurant alongside the water in Hoi An old town. We were surprised to find such authentic tasting Spanish tapas and paella in Vietnam, and this particular restaurant rivalled some of the tapas I have had in Spain. While it was obviously more expensive than a local eatery, this is to be expected as the ingredients tasted high quality. Service was amazing with the waitress attentive and friendly. Would very much recommend if you fancy a brief break from tasty Vietnamese food.”
