Mallorca, Mexico City: A Spanish Pastry Shop and Restaurant on Reforma and in Lomas

Mallorca is a Spanish restaurant in Mexico City that opens for breakfast. It describes itself as a restaurant and pastry shop (pastelería), and since 2016 it has served breakfasts, lunches and dinners, plus pastries and savoury snacks, at two branches in the city.

Two branches, one idea

Mallorca has two listings in our directory, and both carry the same description:

The Reforma branch is on one of the city's main avenues. The Explanada branch is in Lomas de Chapultepec, a residential district west of Chapultepec park.

What the kitchen does

Mallorca's own description is short and clear about its aim. It says it guides diners through Spanish cuisine "without forgetting" dishes with a Mexican essence, because Spain and Mexico are, in its words, historically, culturally and gastronomically united. So expect a menu that is mainly Spanish with some Mexican dishes in it, not a strict regional Spanish kitchen. The listing describes the cooking as Spanish in general and does not tie it to the island of Mallorca.

The other half of the business is the pastry side: the listing mentions a wide range of pastries, savoury snacks and handmade baked goods. So a Spanish-style breakfast or a coffee-and-pastry stop is as good a reason to go as a full meal.

Opening hours

Both branches list long days, starting early. These are the hours in our directory; check with the restaurant before a special trip.

  • Reforma: Monday to Saturday 08:00–23:00, Sunday 08:00–20:00.
  • Explanada: Monday 07:30–21:00, Tuesday to Friday 07:30–23:00, Saturday and Sunday 08:00–20:00.

The Explanada branch is the one to choose for an early start on a weekday, since it opens at 07:30 from Monday to Friday.

How to use it

Because it covers the whole day, Mallorca fits more plans than an evening-only restaurant would. A few ways to use it:

  • Breakfast before a morning on Reforma, at the Reforma branch.
  • A pastry and coffee stop in Lomas, at Explanada.
  • A long lunch where some of the table wants Spanish dishes and some want Mexican ones.

Both listings give the same menu PDF on Mallorca's website as their web link. Check with the restaurant that it is current before relying on its dishes or prices.

More Spanish food nearby

If you are in Lomas de Chapultepec, two more Spanish restaurants from our directory are listed in the same district:

  • Ajoblanco, Pedregal 45, in the same Lomas - Virreyes area as Mallorca Explanada: a Spanish Mediterranean kitchen developed by chef Pablo San Román, named after the almond cold soup, with fish, rice dishes, shellfish, gazpachos and homemade bread as its listed specialties.
  • Zeru Lomas, Monte Everest 635: chef Israel Aretxiga's product-focused fish cooking, in a dining room that is mostly terrace and, by its own description, evokes the Basque coast.
