Bodega El Lagar is a small restaurant owned by a married couple who have more than 20 years of experience working in Spanish cuisine. The restaurant was born with the purpose of promoting Spanish food and wine and to encourage people to become interested in Spanish cuisine and culture. The restaurant name makes reference to the place where people used to press grapes. The style of cooking is general Spanish, and the restaurant prepares dishes from different regions It appears in some national guides and articles.

This was one of the few restaurants in the area open after 9pm on the back neighborhood behind our airbnb , and so glad we found it without having to go back to the Lively Main Street. Very intimate and classy place with seating for maybe about 15 people across all tables and bar area. The menu featured Spanish dishes and paella. The menu was in both Spanish and Japanese and included quaint little stories about the nature of some of the dishes. I had the lamb chops which tasted amazing, but they also had oxtails and muscles as the dinner specials that evening that looked equally tempting. It appeared to be a couple that run the restaurant with the wife at front of house and the man as the chef. We were English speaking but was able to communicate just fine. My daughter says that the quiet dinner in the middle of our Japan trip was one of the best memories because of the setting and the great food.”

The chef and the waitress welcomed me with an open heart and the food was so good! I ordered the set manual and everything is so delicious and the portion is very generous. The service was great and I had a lovely conversation with both of them. If I come back to Kyoto again I will definitely visit them again. Your friend from Canada!”
